gomo initiative

Ugh…yet another thing marketers have to worry about…mobile websites. Don’t mistake mobile websites with mobile apps. Mobile apps are generally specifically designed for mobile operating systems found on IPhones, Blackberrys and Droid based phones and are indeed small mobile applications.

Simply put, mobile websites are an extension of your current company website. IPhone users use a mobile version of Safari browser to surf the web and Droid and Blackberry users have their web browsers built in too. Unfortunately we are dealing with a different screen size as marketers when offering up a website on a mobile phone.

Does your website include a mobile version? If you don’t know the answer to this, then it most likely does not. Take the next step to see how it resolves on a smartphone. Google has developed a website testing tool under its Go Mobile initiative that allows website owners to test their smartphone.

Mobile Website Analysis and Mobile Website Tips

Simply enter in your URL and see how the site looks. If you’re packing ten pounds of website page in a two pound screen, then call your website developer. Ask your website design provider if your website can include a mobile version. Better yet, ask your website development company if you can manage the content on your mobile website through your content management system (CMS). Statistics are on the rise. Some resources suggest that as many as 50% of all internet users are surfing the web via smartphones. That’s a force to recon with.
