Congress is currently considering legislation to regulate the internet in an effort to end online piracy. There is no doubt that piracy needs to be addressed. However, at what cost? Piracy finds a way to happen regardless of the firewalls we put up to prevent it.
As a part time artist, I appreciate the effort to regulate those that would decide to republish my art and intellectual property as either their own, or for their own profit. Why should anyone benefit from my time and effort. However, if these regulations create hurdles for everyday usage of the internet. If these border fences create havoc on legitimate business and the dream of starting a business, then the legislation has to be closely scrutinized. From what I read, it sounds if much due diligence is still required before any legislation is put in place.
The White House has taken a stand against some of the new legislation.
I am too…sign the online petition and let congress know how you feel.
